Book Synopsis: In this definitive stuy, by John Deschner examines John Wesley's understanding of the person and work of Christ. Recognizing that Wesley does not offer a systematic theology, the author probes the characteristic empases and tensions presented in Wesley's works primarily in the writings that consititue the doctrinal standards of Wesleyanism. Deschner's twofold approach 1) seeks to uncover Wesley's intention in what he says about Jesus Christ and 2) views the Christology as the developmental result of a theological conversion occuring in Wesley's life. The author considers Wesley's perspective on the prophetic, rpiestly, and kingly offices of Christ in the context of Christ as Immanual "God with Us".
