Book Synopsis: This book is a reaffirmation for the contemporary world of the vital unity of the Old and New Testaments. The author maintains that the study of the Old testament in our time has tended to limit itself to the analysis of the documents and to the use of them as materials for anthropological research, while the positive value of the Old Testament has been looked for in its record of the development of high religious ideals from lowly origins. He aims to restore the claims of theology: that is to say, to take seriously the faith which inspires the Biblical writers in the reality of God and the actuality of His choice of Israel to be His People, and to show how such terms as 'Jerusalem', 'the Throne of David', or 'sacrifice' acquire a greatly deepened meaning when the Divine Purpose is brought to its completion in Jesus the Messiah.
