The occasion for this study booklet is twofold. In the first place, it is conceived as a contribution by the Commission on Stewardship and Evangelism of the Lutheran World Federation to the study on The Missionary Structure of the Congregation sponsored by the World Council of Churches This study has been in process since the New Delhi Assembly in 1961 and has now been completed. ...This study booklet is therefore designed with the purpose of adding a missing dimension which the ecumenical study lacks. In the hands of delegates attending the Uppsala Assembly, it is hoped that this contribution will help to stimulate the discussions which will be carried out in Section 2 particularly. In the second place, this material serves as preparation for the Fifth assembly of the Lutheran World federation to be held at Porto Alegre, Brazil, in 1970. It is directed particularly toward the work which will be done in Section I under the theme, Communicating the Gospel. The appearance of this study document at this time will provide an early opportunity for pastors and laymen to form study groups on some of the questions which will be discussed what the Assembly.
